The abuse of women ad children is a universal problem which occurs across economic, ethnic, religious, gender and all cultural groups. In South Africa domestic violence is a social problem but it is viewed as a private matter. It becomes a point of concern when the department of safety, security and liaison receives complaints related to the attitude and perceptions of police officers towards the victims of domestic violence. This prompted the department to conduct a research on knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of police officers towards the victims of domestic violence in Limpopo Province. The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge that police officers have when handling the victims of domestic violence as per Domestic Violence Act No 116 of 2008, their attitudes and perceptions towards the victims of domestic violence. |
